About Us & Our Gatherings

In 1974, a mini-group in the South Bay was formed as part of the Southern California Chapter of the EGA.

Feeling the need for more autonomy, and wanting to have programs and workshops of their own, the members voted to become a separate chapter in February of 1987. By June, we were granted our charter from the national board.

We sponsor beginning to advanced programs in needlepoint, cross stich, surface embroidery, pulled thread, hardanger and more.

General meetings and board meetings are held monthly.

On the forth Thursday of most months, we hold the General Meeting. The exceptions to this are as follows:

• May is the KAP luncheon, no formal meeting

• November is dark, since the meeting would fall on Thanksgiving

• December meeting is usually the second Thursday, due to the Christmas holiday.

Meetings start at 9:30am and last until around noon. Refreshments are available to help you wake up! We begin with a business meeting and Show and Tell. After a short break we have a program.

Our programs are usually a new stitching project taught by a member or guest teacher, or just continuing on the previous month's project.

On the first Monday of each month, we have a very casual Sit & Stitch meeting via ZOOM . Work on your current project and visit with friends.

Meeting starts at 9:30 am and lasts until lunch time.

On months that have a fifth Thursday, which is around 3 or 4 times a year, we have an extra meeting, which is casual and an opportunity to visit and stitch. Plus everyone brings a bag lunch.

The meeting starts at 9:30 am and lasts until noon, then we have lunch together. You can even choose to stay after lunch and stitch some more.

Beaders usually meet on the first Friday of each month, except January, from 9:30 am until 12:30 pm. Some months are on the second Friday due to scheduling conflicts or holidays.

Before the meeting starts, we have show and tell, and during the meeting everyone is free to chat and share and help others. No business meeting, just fun!

You must be a member of the chapter to join the beaders group, but guests are welcome.

After the meeting, which is very informal and fun, everyone is welcome to go to lunch at a local restaurant (pay for yourself).

KAP, or Knot Another Project, is our annual fundraising luncheon which is eagerly looked forward to by members of the chapter and all local needlework enthusiasts.

Usually held in May on the date of the normal monthly meeting, it is much more than just lunch! With a different theme each year, the tables and room are decorated with delightful centerpieces and goodies, which are given as doorprizes at the end of lunch.

We also have a needlework exhibit to match the theme, a huge "Lemonade Sale" (think yard sale with cash donation of your own choosing), opportunity baskets, and refreshments prior to lunch.

The Azure Verde chapter helps several charity efforts, among them being:

• Torrance Memorial Hospital (lap blankets, shawls, and dog scarves for pet visitations)

• Packages for Patriots (knitted helmet liners and fabric Christmas stockings filled with toiletries and treats)

• We have also started a new program in 2020, teaching counted cross-stitch to children that attend area schools.
